Chapter three
Paulina stuttered as she tried to tell the proprietress what happened. The woman listened attentively to her report while nodding her head in respondent to her fast talk. After she finished talking, she asked her to to sit down and she takes a look at her injured leg. As she tried to massage it Paulina yelled out pain holding the proprietress shoulder.
“Sorry, is it that much.” She looked dazed. “You can sit here while I go talk to the pupils. They need to be dealt with for their ill behavior.
“Please do ma, because I wasn’t expecting such from them and they are even the cause of this pains I am going through.” She looks sober starring at the woman as she left, closing the office door.
“Very stu.pid children. Ha, just imagine. So they want to turn me to a one leg person. They can’t, never! Their e.vil plans will fail concerning me. Useless children! Fo.olish children! This is why my mind didn’t accept to teach them sef. See how they are behaving like possessed children. Primary 3 for that matter. They shouldn’t worry, they Will see what I will use their eyes to see in this school. I will surely get that nonsense child that said I am not beautiful. Chai! See, see finish. Imagine (checking herself out) a whole spec like me is not beautiful. Ha, I don suffer. “ She chuckled, holding her left leg.
Not long the proprietress entered along with two pupils. Two of her colleagues and one other teachers in the school also followed.
“Is the leg still paining you.” Timothy asked, bending down to take a look at it and she screamed silently immediately he touched it. “Sorry”. He said.
“How come na? When it’s not that you are wearing hills to have caused the fall.” Elizabeth said.
“Sorry mistress”. The school teacher said.
“Thank you.” She answered while looking at the two pupils in her front. She instantly recognize them as part of her pupils. Just before she could ask questions about them the properties speaks.
“They have been fetched out and these are the two rascals who refused to speak out to claimed their wrongs.
“Really?” she looked at them surprisingly most especially the girl standing next to the boy.
“But I didn’t hear female voice earlier. So it was you two that said those statements in the class.
They bowed their head not answering.
“Are you two deaf or you want me to hit your head with this cain of mine!.” The proprietress uttered commandly and they look up.
“ye…s ye….ssss we are.” They stuttered.
“Who among you said I was ugly?” She looked at them in anger within her.
When they didn’t respond on time the proprietress hit their head with Cain and the boy pointed to the girl. Elizabeth bursted into laughter not knowing if was suited to do so at that moment.
“So now, explain to her why you decided to think and say such nasty words to someone you’re just seeing for the first time.
“Exactly ma! She should be able to explain it.” The school teacher said.
“I have seen her before.” The girl answered without moving her body.
The proprietress and the rest look at themselves amazingly and Paulina chuckled not knowing what to say.
“Where did you know her from Emily?.
“Emily???” Elizabeth and Paulina questioned shockingly.
“How come she has a Lovely name. She doesn’t deserve it at all.” Paulina said, looking at her all over.
“Emily are you deaf!
“I saw her during the school break the first day she came here.” Emily answered.
“Oh oh oh. But, that doesn’t give you the audacity and boldness to say your teacher is an ugly person.
“But it’s the truth ma.” She answered fearlessly.
“You must be out of your mind!”. The school teacher smack the back of her head as Elizabeth giggles silently covering her mouth.
Paulina couldn’t hold back the weariness within her as she bursted out crying because of the effrontery a girl like her could have to have insulted her. Body shaming her appearance when she knows she isn’t that bad facially. Emily received more beating than before until she apologies to Paulina. Paulina didn’t want the situation to be more awkward so she asked them to leave but in her mind she is aiming to deal with both of them. Most especially the girl.
The rest of the day was spent at home because she was asked to go back to the hostel after treating her leg. When her colleagues return it was more unbearable as they make jest of the whole issue. She just sat on the bed looking at them, smirking to all their conversation.
“Do you guys even know what even happened in my class today as well. Hmmm.
“What happened?” They chorused, facing Taiwo.
He laughed for some minutes before proceeding. It even makes the rest more anxious to know what it was. “It was during the break ooo and this girl just came to me.
“Girl again.” Mirabelle queried.
“Let me finish na. This girl just walked up to me and said; Uncle I like your skin. You are handsome, are you married bla bla bla
They all bursted out laughing.
“Congrat my guy, you don finally get babe for this village.” Muhammad said jokingly and Taiwo frown.
“But what exactly is this girls problem. Well, I have not encountered anything today ooo but I believe and trust those pupils that they can’t try such with me. And thank God, their main class teacher is there so they won’t even dare it.” Elizabeth said.
“The girl must have been crushing on you at first sight na. Or you think to be yellow pawpaw na moi moi 🤣 your complexion alone is an attraction.
“I think that is what he didn’t know Paulina. I believe the girl must be busty for her to have come to you.” Timothy said.
“Yes na, if you see her chest ehn. Primary six pupil for that matter. See as everything full ground.
“My guy, my guy.” Muhammad shaking hands with him teasingly. “You don catch fish, na to dey sanma Dem dey go remain like this.
“What do you mean by that Muhammad? Haba, is that what he is here for.” Timothy answered. "They're still underage!
“I wonder ooo”. Mirabelle hissed at Muhammad.
“Is like Muhammad is not supposed to be called Muhammad because he is not carrying the virtue of the name at all. He is too promiscuous. I believe he can sleep with anyone he sees as long as he is interested. May….”
Muhammad cut mirabelle short.” Eh, I don’t like it ooo what is all this na. Is it because of the one suggestion I made that gives you the reason to say such about me. Please stop it, I don’t like it and I won’t take it likely with you next time.
He left the girls room in annoyance.
“Leave am jor na body dey pepper am.” Paulina said shushing his absence.
“I will talk with him when I go inside. But I have something to discuss with you all." Timothy said.
“What is it again? Is your own too about another girl coming to woo you. They can’t even come to you because you don’t look manly.
“ha ha, that words is too much Elizabeth. Habba!" Paulina answered.
“oya no vex, talk watin you wan tell us.
Timothy smile and didn’t take her words to heart. He closed the door and sat in front of the girls while Taiwo was beside him.
“Did any of you noticed something today in the school?.
“Noticed something. In the school??? Something like what?
“Yes, something like what, because I don’t think I noticed anything apart from what happened to me today.” Paulina answered after Elizabeth.
“There is a big tree behind the school building that gathered a lot of birds squelching here and there.
“We know na. So what is something to know about it?. Taiwo asked.
“When I was writing on the board. one of the bird flew to the window making unnecessary noise. I wanted to send it away but I was stopped by the class teacher that I shouldn’t because they don’t like disturbing their visit.
“You say?? Eh ehhhhh
“Paulina, that was how I was flabbergasted also. And could you believe that that Bird stood on the window until I finished writing. And I noticed that whenever I wanted to write again if it has gone it will come back.
“Wahala!.” The girls laughed out loud.
“Probably in your own case it’s bird that is falling for you. Hahahaha 🤣
“This is not a funny matter girls. There is something else I saw in the spi.rit realm pertaining one boy in the class whenever the bird arrive.
“Hmmm, pastor, pastor pastor! You have come again. What did you see ooo.
“The boy face was divided into two. Half human and half animal.
“Chinekeme! Abeg e don do. We don’t want to hear anything again.” Elizabeth stood up, followed by Mirabelle.
“Where are you girls going?” Timothy asked.
“Outside of course. We are hungry Biko. Keep your stories to yourself.
