RUNAWAY LOVE ❤🏃 (A true story)

CHAPTER 4

Harriet did succeed to get into the house. She actually scaled the back part of the fence and sneaked into the house through the back door. Luckily for her, the door was left open. So, as her parents were walking in through the front door, she was walking in through the back door. It was a very near miss.

As for me, the very next day, I had to leave for the village. Solange was very sad when I told her I would be leaving, but her face soon brightened again when I promised to come back in no time.

When I got to the village the next day, I couldn't concentrate. Whatever I did reminded me of her. There was no way I could contact her since telecommunication network had not been installed yet. I spent days and weeks dying to see her.

Then, something good happened. The second term holiday came and my elder sister came to the village. My younger sister didn't come because classes that were preparing for the GCE had to stay back in school for preparatory classes. Same day my elder sister came, my mother asked me to pack my stuffs and go be with my younger sister. I acted as if I hated the whole idea, but my heart was sugar sugar.

I traveled that evening and reached my destination about an hour later. The first person I wanted to see was Solange. However, when I made enquiries, I was told that she had gone out for sport. Her boss and his wife had travelled. I asked where she was doing sports and they gave me directions. I went there to see her.

When I got there, I saw her lying on the grass and her trainer was on her in such a way that I didn't like. What sort of training was that? I thought to myself. That was more of a romance than actual training. When she saw me, she quickly abandoned her trainer and ran to me excitedly but I was angry and made her know that I wasn't happy. We had a discussion and I let it slide.

The following day, in the afternoon, I saw her sneaking food through the back gate to one guy in our neighbourhood called Rex Lawson. I was once again, very angry and jealous. When I asked her about it. She assured me that there was nothing going on between them.

In fact, I came to realize that the period we had been away had caused a lot of harm. She was no longer the Solange I used to know. She had made new friends and was hanging out with people I didn't know. When I tried talking to her, it resulted to a big quarrel.

I was tired and frustrated. So, I went to the central town to have a good time with some of my old pals. I just wanted her to be by herself for a while. While I was on my way to town, walking on foot, because okada had not yet been introduced, I met my younger sister's friend. She said she was going to our house.

That particular friend of my sister was more like family to us. She could come to our house whenever she wanted and stayed for as long as she wanted. We were very close. So, when I saw her, I had to go back to the house to open the door for her and make her feel comfortable before going back.

"When are you coming back." Eli asked, for that was her name.

"I don't know. It all depends, but I might be late." I replied.

"Okay, please, don't stay for too long. I will be bored being here all alone."

"Alright, but why are you not studying with your friend, my sister?" I asked her.

"I don't like their company. I enjoy my own company. That is why I have come here to be with you."

"Alright, I will try not to be long, but there are no guarantees."

"I doesn't matter for how long you stay. I will not sleep until your return."

"Why?" I asked, surprised.

"Nothing, just know that."

As I was drinking with my friends, my mind kept going to her. Eli was a beautiful girl with soft curly hair and large brown eyes. I had never really thought of anything between us because she was more like family, and I had never fancied dating my younger sister's friends.

But she was all alone in our house, waiting for me. What was her mission? Why were women always like that? Why was she putting me in such an uncomfortable situation? What if I got home now and made advances at her? What would she say? Would she blame me?

Luckily for me, I went home that night very late and very tired, and just like she had promised, she was still up, waiting for me. Because I was very tired, I fell on the bed and slept off almost immediately. I completely forgot that there was a beautiful woman sleeping beside me on the same bed.

I woke up late that morning and noticed that Eli had left. I freshened up, and just as I was about to go out, my friend, Eddy came. He said he and his babe, Linda, had a small issue and she wanted me to help him solve it. I sent for Linda and talked to them both. Linda apologized and they made up.

Eddy and I were seating in front of the house talking when I saw a beautiful, slim and fair-skinned lady passing. I asked Eddy who she was.

"Her name is Olga. She used to be my classmate." He replied.

"I have never seen her before. Do you think I should give chase?" I asked.

"Depends on you, Bro. But I heard that she's living with a man." He replied.

"So what? As long as they are not legally married, she's still available."

"If you say so, but how about Solange?"

"Boy, her attitude these days has been terrible. She is very stubborn and rude. In fact, I am tired of her. If I just hustle this small girl now and she accepts, I am using her to replace Solange immediately." I told him.

"Just be careful." He spoke.

I left him sitting in front of our house and gave chase.

"Olga." I called and the lady turned around in surprise.

"How did you know my name?" She asked squinting her slitted eyes because it was sunny.

"Don't bother about that." I replied. "My name is Philips and this is my territory. I know the name of whoever trespasses."

"Alright, so what do you want?" She asked, hands at akimbo.

"I am requesting to have a word with you."

"Request denied." She replied firmly.

"Why?"

"Because there's nothing you want to tell me that I haven't already heard of. I know your type very well. You are a chaps man. Well, sorry, I don't have any time for you now. So, can I go now?" She was rude.

"Not so fast, Olga. Just give me your ears. Just listen to me. You don't even know what I want to say to you."

"But I do. I do know what you want to talk about. Is it not about love? Tell me, am I telling a lie?"

"Well, actually, you are right." I replied.

"Good, I am not interested. Please, leave me alone. My mother has sent me on an erand."

I was vexed and disappointed. Who did she think she was? A whole me that all the small things around chase, now I have humbled myself to talk to her and she was not even happy. I was very angry. I had just been insulted, humiliated, disgraced by a small girl, something that had never happened before.

As I walked back to our house to meet Eddy, I cursed aloud. Solange was the cause of all this. If not for her chakara, would I have gone to chat another girl and got humiliated in the process? When Eddy asked me how things went, I told him the truth and he laughed until tears came to his eyes. Angry with him for enjoying my misery, I abandoned him in front of the house and went inside.

That evening,y younger sister's friend, Eli, came back home. As we sat in front of our house chatting, I saw a sight that almost made me disappear. Walking just in front of our house, and talking seriously, were two ladies. You would not believe who they were. They were Solange and Olga.

So, Solange and Olga knew each other? Oh no!! What had I just done? I had messed up big time. Chai!! How was I going to undo this? I was very scared and hoped that Olga had the presence of mind, and the maturity not to tell Solange anything about our previous encounter, but I was wrong.

The following day, Harriet came to see me.

"Good afternoon, Harriet. How are you?" I asked.

"I am fine. Solange asked me to find out if you were home. She wants to talk to you." She spoke.

"She wants to talk to me? Why?" I was afraid.

"How can you ask a question like that, Phi? Is she not your girlfriend?" Harriet was surprised.

"Yes, she is but we have not been in talking terms for almost a week now. So, I am sure there is something not right. Please, Harriet, tell me. Do you know anything?"

"Well, she's very angry."

"Why? Why is she angry?" I asked, though I could already guess the answer.

"She said you asked her friend out."

I froze.
